The Action Switchboard

As director of this internationally acclaimed animated short, I led a global team of creatives to bring The Yes Men's revolutionary platform to life—a project that would earn official selections at four major animation festivals across three continents. The Yes Men, legendary activist duo known for elaborate corporate impersonations and subversive interventions, approached us with an ambitious vision: create a crowdfunding and recruitment platform that would democratize their modus operandi. The Action Switchboard aimed to make creative activism accessible worldwide, transforming their proven tactics into a scalable movement for political, social, and environmental change. Directing Across Borders Leading an international creative team presented unique challenges. Coordinating animators, designers, and writers across time zones required clear communication, shared vision, and the ability to maintain creative cohesion despite geographic distance. I established workflows that allowed individual contributors to bring their strengths while ensuring the final piece felt unified rather than fragmented. The project demanded balancing The Yes Men's subversive humor with genuine calls to action—making activism feel both urgent and accessible. We needed to capture their irreverent spirit while communicating the platform's serious potential as a socio-political game-changer. Festival Recognition The film's success at international animation festivals—from Israel's Asif Festival to ReAnimania in Armenia, SPARK Animation in Canada, and Festival Internacional de Animación in Uruguay—validated our approach. These selections demonstrated that activist messaging could compete aesthetically and narratively with traditional animation while maintaining its radical edge. The recognition proved that thoughtful creative direction could elevate political content beyond preaching to the converted, reaching audiences who might otherwise dismiss activist work as visually unsophisticated or tonally heavy-handed. Activism Through Animation This project reinforced my belief that design and animation serve purposes beyond commercial goals. The Action Switchboard film became both promotional tool and proof of concept—demonstrating that creative activism, when executed with skill and vision, could inspire genuine participation in movements for the 99%.
